Okay, so I rarely post political stuff in my livejournal. But this one concerns me quite a bit.

If you don't want to hear/read it, don't. That's why it's under a cut.
If you want to comment, that's fine. That's why livejournals have comment features. But please... there is a difference between commenting and having a comment war. I'd rather not have the latter on my journal.

On 07 March 05, John R. Bolton - currently Undersecretary of State for Arms Control and International Security - was nominated to be the United States Ambassador to the United Nations.

Having read the following document and heard what the man himself has to say, I personally disagree with the nomination.

This basically goes over the opposition in Congress' consideration of Bolton as a nominee.

This is a short movie showing video clips of Bolton speaking some of his viewpoints.

I agree that America is a driving force in the world. That's pretty much indisputable. However, I also believe that it's important for us to work with other countries to help improve that world for everyone - including ourselves. Of course the United States wants to advance its own interests. But that shouldn't come in exchange for other nations' right to do the same. How can someone who disputes the very merit of the United Nations be expected to represent us well there?

In other news, my drive test is tomorrow morning and I'm terrified.

Yeah actually, I took the driving test at Kirkland after failing at Lake Hills. The people at Lake Hills are like drill sergeants (except for the one tall skinny guy, he's cool). I know of this Asian/Hispaniard lady and the old lady. They're both easy going, which is nice. That whole place is like 10 decibels quieter than the Lake Hills one. Fuck a bunch of Lake Hills! :D All they ever gave us was Nick's dad's house and passage to Crossroads.

Bolton has publicly publically.... whatever... he has stated in public that he thinks the UN is outdated and useless, he feels that it should be abolished and a large part of his nomination was based on the idea that he would determine for the U.S. if it wishes to stay a member or something like that... it's stupid and, frankly, he's the sort of American I can stand the least... oh well at least he'll never get in....

Determine whether we wish to stay a member?! God, that's so one-sided. If we are looking at this as an important decision (which, obviously, we should), someone like Bolton is not the man for the job. I don't trust someone who alters intelligence to fit his own agenda to make that determination for our country. I already know what he'll "determine."
God, what a waste of a nomination.

some large percentage of the population wants America to give up its veto power or, rather, for all the veto powers to give up theirs ... good stuff... I personally nominate Moby for U.S. diplomat
